By tradition, the Orkney warming chair served dual purposes. With its structured panel sides and dense rush weave, it protected from bitter winter winds and rains that blew through drafty cottages. Shorter legs kept seats low to the ground to avoid rising smoke that gathered in the small main rooms. Our reproduction highlights those traditional features, replacing driftwood framing for Philippine mahogany. Hand-woven fronds are dense and follow artisanal patterns of distinctive rows that are then attached with abaca rope for support. Our child's Orkney chair is generous in size, it will keep little ones comfortable in play areas while adults can enjoy seating at the hearth from a new perspective.
